General problems

Problem	Cause/solution
Communication problems (between VEL‑R‑5 and the data logger)	Reduce the distance between the VEL‑R‑5 and the data logger, and try to avoid obstacles such as walls and similar. The capacity of the battery is virtually depleted.
The measurement value "Surface velocity" is not plausible	The alignment of the VEL‑R‑5 is incorrect. The angle between the VEL‑R‑5 and the surface to be measured should be between 30° and 60° (recommendation 45°). The capacity of the battery is virtually depleted. The surface is too smooth. There must be waves with a minimum height of 2 mm (see Framework conditions for a reliable measurement. Check whether there are any interfering objects between VEL‑R‑5 and the surface to be measured. Check whether the conditions specified in the chapters Framework conditions for a reliable measurement and Guidelines for choosing the installation location have been met. Check whether a flag is set for the measurement value "Status of the surface velocity" (see Measurement values provided). Check whether the radar lens is soiled.
The sign of the measurement value "surface velocity" is incorrect	The mounting direction specified in the configuration does not correspond to the installation situation (see Aligning the VEL‑R‑5 ).
