Guidelines for choosing the installation location
Gradient drops
The VEL‑R‑5 should be positioned at least five times the diameter of the channel (or the maximum water level) upstream of the drop structure. The velocity profile becomes distorted as it approaches the drop, making accurate measurements difficult.

Vertical drops
The VEL‑R‑5 must not be installed in the immediate vicinity of a vertical drop. Upstream, a distance of at least five times the diameter of the channel (or the maximum water level) must be kept. Downstream, a minimum distance of ten times the diameter must be kept.

Obstructions (e.g. baffles)
The VEL‑R‑5 must not be installed in the immediate vicinity of a baffle or other obstructions. Upstream, a distance of at least five times the diameter of the channel (or the maximum water level) must be kept. Downstream, a minimum distance of ten times the diameter must be kept.

Bends and curves
The VEL‑R‑5 must not be installed in the immediate vicinity of a bend or curve. Upstream, a distance of at least five times the diameter of the channel (or the maximum water level) must be kept. Downstream, a minimum distance of ten times the diameter must be kept.

Junctions
The VEL‑R‑5 must not be installed in the immediate vicinity of a junction. If the flow rates of both supply lines are approximately the same, a distance of at least five times the diameter of the channel (or the maximum water level) must be kept upstream. Downstream, a minimum distance of ten times the diameter must be kept.
To determine the distance to be maintained, always use the diameter (or maximum water level) of the channel section in which the sensor is to be installed. If the flow in one of the supply lines is significantly higher than in the other, install the sensor on the wall closest to the supply line with the lower flow.
