Online help for VEL-R-5
General product information
The VEL‑R‑5 is a battery operated, stationary non-contact sensor used to determine the surface velocity of fresh, dirty or grey water in shafts and sewers. A radar sensor is used to carry out the measurement. The flow direction is also detected and signalled by the prefix of the surface velocity value during measurement. Thanks to the internal battery and to the data transmission via local radio connection, the sensor works independently and therefore requires no on site cabeling. Thanks to the compact design, the VEL‑R‑5 is also perfectly suited for installation locations with limited space. The ultra low power technology allows for a long battery life time with both short measurement intervals and high resolution.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
The VEL‑R‑5 does not have a special transport mode. I.e. it is always ready for operation and does not have to be activated.
No
The VEL‑R‑5 can only detect the surface velocity. The flow direction is also determined and signalled by the prefix of the surface velocity value.
- Turbulent current
- Standing waves
- Rain and wind
For information on how the choice of installation location affects the quality of the measurement values and what measures you can take to optimise accuracy, see section Framework conditions for a reliable measurement.
The VEL‑R‑5 does not have a special transport mode and therefore does not need to be deactivated.
A more detailed explanation is provided in section Storage of the product.
