Ex protection

The portable VEL‑R‑5 is designed for use in areas with a zone 1 explosive atmosphere.

The following conditions must be observed:

  • The device is designed for fixed installation and cannot be used as a portable equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Equipment must be installed in a place with low risk of mechanical impact and shall be adequately protected from falling objects.
  • Non-metallic parts of the equipment enclosure shall be protected from direct sunlight.
  • The plastic surface of the housing of the device exceeds the limit specified in the standard, so it must be protected against electrostatic charging. Cleaning should only be done with a damp cloth.
  • Do not open the housing in the presence of an explosive atmosphere.
  • The built-in battery shall be replaced in a non-hazardous area and only the original battery supplied by the manufacturer may be used for replacement. It is forbidden to recharge the power supply cell in the device.
  • Only the manufacturer's original spare parts must be used.
  • A mounting distance of min. 50 mm must be maintained on all sides to prevent any impurities.

Important: The Ex approval is only valid if the corresponding marking is provided on the type plate of the device .
Important: The certificates of conformity and any relevant test certificates from the respective authorities must be carefully observed during installation and commissioning.

The seperation surface between the category 1 and cotegory 2 part is the external thread for process installation. In case of a vertical installation with the Radar lens looking downwards, below this thread the VEL‑R‑5 complies to category 1, above it, it is of category 2.
