General product information

The device is a battery operated, stationary non-contact measurement device used to determine the surface velocity of fresh, dirty or grey water in shafts and sewers by means of a radar sensor. The flow direction is also detected and signalled by the prefix of the surface velocity value. For the supply of the integrated logic (radio module, controller and radar sensor), the VEL‑R‑5 is equipped with an internal battery. Since the communication between VEL‑R‑5 and the compatible data logger also takes place via local radio connection, no on-site cabling is required. The compact design also allows installation in locations with limited space. To generate the measurement values, a data logger must be paired with the VEL‑R‑5 . The data logger initiates the detection of the surface velocity (taking into account the installation direction), of the distance to the water surface (extended sensor axis), of the angle of inclination, of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), of the battery voltage, of the estimated remaining runtime and of the status of the surface velocity. Measurement values generated in this way can then be read out and recorded using the data logger. A compatible data logger can also be used to transmit the selected installation direction (against or in the direction of the flow) to the VEL‑R‑5 . A list of compatible data loggers is provided in the chapter Compatible data loggers.
