Taking the mounting angle into consideration
The mounting angle of the sensor module is taken into account in this step. Due to the angle of inclination between the water surface and the sensor, the waves do not move directly towards the radar beam. However, the sensor can only detect the velocity component that runs in the direction of the radar beam (i.e. directly towards it). What the sensor measures is therefore only the projection of the actual speed of the waves in the direction of the radar beam. If the angle of inclination is known, the actual surface velocity can be calculated based on the measured velocity component.
vreal = vmeasured / cos(θ)
The following table indicates the parameter relevant for the module:
| Configuration section | Parameter | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement system -> Remote sensor module of type VEL-R-5 | Mounting angle | Input field for the mounting angle (i.e. angle of inclination between water surface and sensor) |
