Determining the water level

The sensor modules supported by the Jellox Analog use different measuring methods to determine the water level. The "LVL‑R‑5 " sensor module determines the water level by means of distance measurement using a radar sensor and thus enables non-contact measurement. Sensor modules of the "Gauge " family use a piezoresistive pressure sensor that must be immersed in the medium to be measured. The following illustration shows a comparison of these two types of sensor modules.

Installation situation of the LVL‑R‑5

Installation situation of the pressure sensor of the Gauge

1 Installation height
2 LVL‑R‑5
3 Measured distance to surface
4 Calculated level

1 Offset
2 Pressure sensor of the Gauge
3 Output value of the pressure sensor
4 Calculated level

Note: In the following, the term "Installation height" is used both for the distance of the "LVL‑R‑5 " sensor module to the ground and for the distance of the pressure sensor of the "Gauge " sensor module to the ground.

The module chain described in the following is started every 10 sec. (i.e. with the measurement interval) and executed once. The first three stages ("raw", "Installation height" and "Trim") are already completed in the sensor module. I.e. the measurement level delivered by the sensor module is already the actual water level (installation height and trimming considered). The measurement interval is independent from the record interval and cannot be altered. It is used to monitor the conditions under which a "Smart Action" is triggered. It is then the currently valid measurement value generated in the measurement interval that is recorded. The measurements executed since the last recording are not consolidated (e.g. average determination). The interval for the recordings can be selected via the "Record interval" parameter (see Device settings ). The "Smart Actions" can, however, be used to switch to an alternative record interval (see Edit Smart Action).

Schematic diagram of how the measurement value for the "Remote measurement channel" is generated

1 Generation of the raw value using the relevant measuring method (see Determining the raw value) 4 Monitoring of the conditions under which a "Smart Action" is triggered (see Smart Action module)
2 calculates the preliminary water level taking the configurable "Installation height" into consideration (see Taking the installation height into consideration) 5 As the record interval can be selected differently from the non-changable measurement interval, the measurement values are not recorded every time a measurement takes place. (see Record module)
3 corrects the preliminary water level with the configurable value for "Trimming" (see Taking trimming into consideration) 6 This part of the module chain is already completed in the sensor module.
